This book was relaxing and humorous. it was a fortuitous find. I am really looking forward to the next in the series. it is about a young curate in Wales. it begins in 1945 just at the ending of World War II. He has an exciting year at the beginning of his career which starts him off at an rapid pace with lots of adventures. the best way to look at life is to laugh at yourself.
Curate Fred Secombe continues to enjoy his life and work in his Welsh parish of Pontywen. He marries the love of his life the village doctor, Eleanor and they both continue to make the best of what they have and what they are given. They both have a very lively sense of humor that it is a pleasure to step into their lives and walk alongside them for a while.
I continue to enjoy Fred Secombe's gentle series of lIfe's adventures.

Amusing in places, but the conversations are long-winded and somewhat stilted, not helped by the extreme formality which was, perhaps, typical of Wales in the early 1960s. Modern hymns are disparaged, and Fred seems to think it's acceptable to yell at his congregation at times, while kowtowing to the local earl, and only allowing other 'educated' people to use his first name.
Readable, but not very inspiring. I prefer David Wilbourne's series on a similar theme.… (altro)
