Ferdinand Schevill (1868–1954)

Published in 1922, just after WWI, the comments by the author, trying to anticipate what may be going to happen makes this particularly interesting.Then as one Amazon reviewer wrote "I am amazed that anyone would even try to understand European history from 600AD to 1914...without having a clear grasp of Byzantine and Ottoman history" This is why I read it, really. One particularly good map on page 433 shows the location of the different nationalities. My suspiciion is that the book was brought back into print in 1991, essentially unchanged,because of the Balkan wars of the 1900s.… (altro)
