An encyclopaedic volume that recounts the history of the Romans in all of 250 pages, all of them blazing with bright and colorful photographs, reproductions of the art and architecture of the times, maps, and charts. Packed with so much information, it is a bit difficult to read through, and there is perhaps not enough analysis to help us take in and understand the phenomenon of the Roman Empire as a whole. This is particularly obvious in the last pages, when the author starts to ponder on the reasons for its fall. For that, one will perhaps have to start again with Gibbon and his aftermath.… (altro)
