Lennox Robinson (1886–1958)

Robinson, Lennox. - Drammaturgo irlandese (Douglas, Cork, 1886 - Dublino 1958). Esordì con la commedia The Clancy name (1908) all'Abbey Theatre di Dublino, in cui lavorò a lungo, anche come regista, assumendone la direzione nel 1923 (documento importante è la sua Ireland's Abbey theatre: a history 1899-1950, 1951). Abile creatore di caratteri, dotato di forte vena satirica, ha dato viva voce all'irredentismo irlandese in testi drammatici (Patriots, 1912; Dreamers, 1915; The lost leader, 1918; The big house, 1928), o commedie brillanti (The whiteheaded boy, 1920; The far-off hills, 1928), approdando a toni più smussati nell'ultima fase (Church street, 1934; Bird's nest, 1938; The lucky finger, 1948). Scrisse anche romanzi (A young man from the south, 1917) e novelle (Eight short stories, 1919), e curò antologie di poeti irlandesi (The golden treasury of Irish verse, 1925).… (altro)
