I really enjoyed this book because of its the conflict in the plot and how relatable it is. In addition to that, I loved how engaging the illustrations are and the characters and their development throughout the story. This book is about an African American girl and her community is going through something devastating. Her parents and neighbors are distracted by the news alerts and she wants to help in any way possible. In her class, her teacher says to look for the helpers—the good people working to make things better in big and small ways. So, she decides to do a small act of kindness in her community, and she does it again, and again. This book delicately touches on breaking news and its affects on community. I think this is a great book to share, especially now in a time of uncertainty and crisis.
