Very enjoyable second-chance romance. Belle Barnes’s grandmother has Alzheimer’s and thinks Belle is married to Harlan Slade, the man who jilted Belle eight years ago at the altar. So Belle asks Harlan if he will pretend to be her husband in order to make her ailing grandmother happy and less confused. Harlan instead proposes a marriage of convenience to Belle so she won’t have to lie to her grandmother, and because he feels he owes Belle for doing her wrong and regrets ever hurting her so many years ago. He also still has feelings for Belle.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really liked Belle. She worked as a large-animal vet tech, but her real passion was in rescuing animals, to the extent that she sometimes broke the law to do it. Harlan was the Deputy Sheriff with hopes of becoming Sheriff one day. He was a wonderful father to his adorable daughter Ivy. He did have some moments where he acted like a complete jerk to Belle, but at least he admitted when he was wrong and saw the error of his ways. I loved the adorable animals that Belle rescued. There was lots of drama in this story which kept me completely interested and entertained throughout.

Good second chance romance. Lane and Lucy had known each other as teenagers, when she used to spend summers with her cousin on the ranch. They had been in love and planning to marry after she finished school. Then she returned to Italy without a word, and he never heard from her again. Now she's back at the ranch, along with her daughter, and has been given the job that he wanted.

I have to say right off that I didn't like Lucy's cousin Nicolino. He displayed the worst kind of nepotism by giving Lucy a job that she really wasn't qualified for. And the way he treated Lane was inexcusable. Lane had been trained for the barn manager job by the previous manager and to find out that he'd been skunked out of the job the way he did was awful. He was rightfully angry and I wouldn't have blamed him if he had done his best to undermine Lucy. But he really was a good man and couldn't do that to her.

Lucy had come back to the ranch for a new start in life. Her ex-husband had died deeply in debt, leaving Lucy and her daughter Carina virtually penniless. When her cousin offered her the job, she was happy to take it, though she never expected Lane to be there. Finding out that he had expected the job to be his added to the stress she was already under. She struggled to give Carina the attention she needed while also doing her job.

It was obvious to both of them that the old feelings were still there, but working together made doing anything about it unwise. Plus, neither one really wanted to risk their hearts again. Having to work together gave them a chance to get to know each other again, which put a strain on their determination to keep apart. Lane was pretty quick to admit to himself that he still cared. That caring showed itself in the way that he was covering parts of her job because he could see how overwhelmed she was. He also got involved with Lucy's daughter, helping her to adjust to the changes in her life. Spending time with both Lucy and Carina made him long to make it more. Lucy also knew that she still cared for Lane, but there were things from her past that he didn't know and she was afraid of his reaction if he found out. I liked the realism of what happened when he did, and that they dealt in a pretty reasonable way. The ending was really sweet. I liked Lane's big moment with Lucy and later how he made Carina a big part of it also.

Very good book about two people who need to let go of their pasts in order to find the future they want. Chase had gone to the rodeo finals hoping to win the championship for his family and his town. Instead, on the second day, he got injured and was unable to continue. He's upset at the loss, feeling that he's let everyone down. In that mood, the last person he wants to see is reporter Nola West.

Nola and her cameraman, George, were assigned to get the story behind Chase's failure. Her boss wants something sensational, something that will show him she deserves the co-anchor spot that is up for grabs. Nola is determined to get the story, but Chase isn't cooperating. They finally strike a deal where Chase will talk to Nola if she spends part of the camera time on the charity rodeo his family is sponsoring.

I liked Nola. She comes across at first as somewhat ruthless in her pursuit of Chase. But we soon learn that there is more to her than that. Nola is a military brat whose family life wasn't all that great. After rebelling as a teen and getting into trouble, she joined the army herself, becoming a combat journalist. Her family left her somewhat jaded when it came to family life, and seeing the Langtry's family is an eye opening experience. The most amazing part is the attraction she feels for Chase.

Chase has some family issues of his own. As the youngest, he is the last one in the family to be competing in rodeo events. His competitions have taken him away from the ranch and riding school that they run, and he feels guilty about not pulling his weight. Winning a championship would have alleviated that somewhat. His injury is enough that he feels it's time to stop competing and look to his future. One of the things he wants is a wife and family of his own. He's surprised by the attraction he feels for Nola, but he's willing to see where it goes.

I loved seeing the two of them together. Chase is really a pretty sweet guy, and he has a wonderful time showing Nola what a small town Christmas is like. He also finds that she fits in with his family very well. I loved seeing how Nola's outlook changed the more time she spent with him. I especially liked seeing how she took to the town and used her reporter skills to help raise awareness for the charity. Chase really gets into the relationship growing between him and Nola, and sees a great future before them. But Nola has a secret that could derail that future.

I hurt for Nola and the secret she was keeping from Chase. The more she listened to him and his dreams, the more certain she was that she could never have that future with him. When she finally got the courage to tell him, he did not react well. I really wanted to grab him and shake him, because the things he said were so hurtful to her. I was glad to see that some of the members of his family were only too happy to point out his mistakes, and that he finally realized what was most important.

There was also a bit of a mystery going on that involved a land purchase the Langtry's father had made, and the allegations that someone is making about that purchase. Nola uses her reporter contacts to do some research into it, but Chase has trouble trusting that she won't use the info for a story. When a crisis forces her to use an interview with Chase's mom to publicize the allegations, Chase believes they've been betrayed. I loved seeing how Nola continues to try to help, in spite of the horrible things that Chase had accused her of. The conclusion was great, with Nola coming through for the family and Chase realizing just how wrong he was.

Very good book. Lexi came back to Ramblewood to work after ten years away, even though she knew she would be around Shane again. They had been in love but while she was away at school Shane had had a one night stand with a rodeo groupie. That woman ended up pregnant, so Shane broke things off with Lexi and married the other woman. He later found out that the child wasn't his and ended up divorced and childless. Shane is still a rodeo star and has also started a rodeo school with his family. Being around Lexi has shown him that he would really like to have her back in his life, if she'll only forgive him. But then something comes up that really changes their relationship.

I liked both Lexi and Shane, though there were times that he irritated me. He comes across as pretty self centered for a good share of the book. He is a rodeo rider and focused on winning a championship. He is also very charming and a flirt who has had the reputation of being something of a womanizer. He has admitted his mistake that caused his breakup with Lexi and would really like a second chance with her. He's finally gotten to the point where she'll speak to him, but he wants more. He is still in love with her but doesn't want to admit it. He is also busy with the rodeo school and he works a lot with one of the young students who ends up playing a huge part in the story. There is a really terrific scene with Shane and Hunter at the diner, where thirteen year old Hunter is giving Shane advice about women. Shane spends a lot of time thinking about his rodeo goal and also an offer to do a reality show and what they will do for him. Things seem to be getting better with Lexi when he finds out about a secret she's been keeping from him. He doesn't react well and Lexi really blasts him with some things he had never thought about. It was a real eye opener for him and really gave him something to think about. Once he adjusted to the news I loved seeing the way he and Lexi dealt with it together and how it made their relationship stronger.

Lexi had been heartbroken when Shane broke up with her. She transferred schools out of Colorado and rarely came home to visit over the next ten years so that she wouldn't see him. When she was offered a job back home doing what she loved she couldn't stay away any longer. Being around Shane is hard because she is still attracted to him. There are times that she sees changes in him, but she's not sure she can trust him. Spending more time around Shane and his students makes her think more about their past and the secret she kept from him. She never intended to tell anyone until it was discovered and she had no choice. I really liked the fact that she had made her decision for all the right reasons and stood by it even in the face of Shane's anger. I liked the way that she stood up for herself and told him off for his attitude. She had gone through a lot of heartache back then and also now as she searches for the truth. I really enjoyed seeing her able to work things out with Shane. The ending was fantastic.

I loved the part played by Hunter. He was a fun kid and pretty smart for a thirteen year old. I loved his hero worship of Shane, and also that he saw Shane as a real person who makes mistakes. It was fun to see him give Shane a hard time about girls. I loved his reactions to the birth of the foal.
