Trevor Rees-Jones was the soul survivor of the car crash that killed Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayd. He had a long recovery, as they had to do facial reconstruction and he suffered from being the only survivor of the crash. He was accused of not doing enough to prevent the crash and stopping Henri Paul from driving. He recalls memories of that night.

5338. The Bodyguard's Story Diana, the Crash, and the Sole Survivor, by Trevor Rees-Jones with Moira Johnston (read 28 Dec 2015) This book, by the bodyguard who was riding in the car in Paris where Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi were killed, is of interest in its account of the time (before the accident). The author was employed by Dodi's father to watch over his son. Dodi seems totally irresponsible and was a pill to be a bodyguard for. But the book is of course not objective, being designed to show the author did nothing wrong. I think the author is right. After the author and Dodi's father came to a parting of the ways the father sought to blame the bodyguard for what happened (besides seeking to blame the British royal family) but it seems clear that the driver of the car--driving, while drunk, 90 miles an hour on city streets, was the primary culprit. The author foolishly failed to seek damages from the driver and the driver's employer (Dodi's father). The account in the book of the time after the author returns to England from the Paris hospital is less interesting. The complex legal proceedings are not explained so I could understand them. I should have read a more objective book published longer after the tragic events.… (altro)

Very well written book about the last days of Diana. It does leave you wanting more as you still do not know what really happened in the tunnel that night and why Mr. Rees-Jones put on his seatbelt and no one else did. All in all a very good read.
