Henri Rabaud

A polished performance of pleasant but utterly unmemorable music by Rabaud (1873 -- 1949), who had the twin misfortunes of wanting to compose, without having oo awfully much to say, and of facing the competition of such contemporaries as Ravel, Koechlin, and Roussel. Still, pleasant music is nothing to scorn, as an example of which I point to the Procession nocturne. Still, when all is said and done, it is most likely that if Rabaud is remembered at-all, it is because his opera Marouf is, as my sainted Mother (who had actually seen it) loved to point out, the only known opera with a pillow fight!… (altro)
