When I first started reading Couch Potato Politics, I thought it was going to be a how-to guide to political involvement for the uninvolved. Instead, I read the opinions of an everyday guy regarding the state of American politics. And, I loved it. Refreshing, engaging, and informative, Prior did a fantastic job of pinpointing the major hypocrisies in American politics. Plus, the book is written to you, not at you, and this is a nice change from most political books (which I still love).

One of the things that I really appreciated about this one going into it is Prior’s acknowledgement that he’s just a regular guy who follows what’s going on in the world. He is upfront about his leanings (fiscally conservative and socially liberal) and makes an effort to be fair to both sides of the political spectrum. Providing commentary on topics such as the legalization of marijuana, big corporations (‘fat cats’), and gun control, Prior’s candid take on the state of the union flows easily.

It’s evident that despite this being an opinion-driven book, Prior did his research. Drawing on statistics, laws, quotes, and other research, Prior backs up his opinions with facts. Anyone who pays attention to the news nowadays knows that this is not necessarily the norm anymore.
