Read this because an acquaintance recommended it, knowing of my WWII interests. Sadly, this is a schizophrenic book that isn't particularly well-written or researched. It certainly doesn't live up to the hype on the back cover or inside jacket. It's trying to tell the story of a young American but there are so many other characters discussed that it's easy to get confused. Plus, much of what is discussed about the young American is lifted from letters, and that gets tedious to read. As an American fighting with the US Army in Europe in 1945, you would expect letters to his wife to say that he misses her and loves her. 2 stars instead of 1 for attempting to share another story from the "Greatest Generation." 2 stars instead of more for flubbing the attempt.… (altro)

The shocking true story of the murder of seven people at Brown's Chicken and Pasta restaurant in Palantine, IL. It took a task force almost 10 years to finally solve the case, with the help of DNA evidence saved by an astute crime scene investigator.

The really scary part of this book was the side topic of killings occurring at fast food restaurants. I didn't realize that there were so many, on such a regular basis. I don't think I'll ever eat at one late at night ever again. Also mentioned was Fast Food Nation, which is on the TBR pile, I'll have to try and bump that up a notch.… (altro)
