This was a fun, enjoyable read. The mystery seemed a little contrived, but the characters were engaging.

I was not prepared when I started reading for what comes to the Army Base. Captain John Gallows is home after being injured in his left in battle. He has become the Army's recruit poster boy. Leanne just sent to base as a Red Cross nurse. She teaches knitting to make socks for all the soldiers through the Red Cross. All John wants is to get back to battle. But something happens that changes all that. Sometimes God's plans are not same as ours

Welcome to Camp True North Springs, the camp where founders Mason Avery and Dana Preston hope to help children from families who have lost a parent to violence. Widow Kate Hoyle, along with her children Kent and Kimmy, are among the very first campers to arrive on opening day.

Although Kate and her family are the only campers we get to know, there are other families there. It is through their experience that the reader is allowed to see if Camp True North Springs is going to be as successful as Mason and Dana have dreamed.

The camp chef, Seb, gets to know the family well. Kimmy has serious food allergies, so he has had to plan menus that keep foods dangerous to her off the menu. However, he also bonds with Kent and realizes he is very attracted to Kate. Working in an environment where he should have limited interaction with the campers, how is this going to work out?

This is a well-written story, but I do wish the reader also had the opportunity to learn more about some of the other campers. I also would have enjoyed reading about more than the few opportunities mentioned that were offered to help them learn to cope with their loss. The budding romance between adults Seb and Kate comes across as being just as important as the children’s healing process.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this book in a prize drawing by the author. No promise was made of a review, and any opinion here is strictly my own.
