Interesting and comprehensive look at the kind of people that settled SA, what they were hoping to achieve, and how they... failed? He points out that the 1850s were a watershed moment, where SA lost a lot of skilled labour and perhaps culture and enterprise to the eastern states. There's also a lot of discussion of the various religious denominations. That makes sense given the idea of a religiously tolerant utopia drove a lot of people to come to SA - but it's hard to get through for someone like me.… (altro)
