“Stars and Other Monsters” is a well-written story that could fall into a category of its own. Personally, I enjoy the strange and diverse, and this novel did not disappoint. There were moments near the end where the action may have gotten away from Phronk. This resulted in slow-paced reading for fast-paced action, but then Phronk delivered a sucker-punch twist that I never saw coming.
The writing style was fun and clear, and though the story leaned towards a 6 on a Kinsey-esque scale of the bizarre, it was not over-the-top eccentric. Anybody who enjoys reading about vampires, camp, quirky, noir, horror, comedy, adventure, action, the Letterman Show, or the downfall of WalMart could definitely sink their teeth (pun intended) into the oddball gore fest that is “Stars and Other Monsters.”
Of note, Phronk ends his story with the hint of a sequel. I’m ready.… (altro)
Yup, ANOTHER vampire book...is what I thought when I first started this and at the end I was so glad I didn't just pass it up. It;s a funny mix of vampires, stars, and dogs oh my! I totally recommend this to anyone who wants a vampire who's not a moody self loathing forever teen.
