Imagine being the youngest of three daughters. Your mother's pet name for you is Baby. No one expects that you have a life or even want one besides hanging out at home with dear old mom and dad. Meet Rica.

The summer camping trip is just beginning. Rica, her two older sisters, her mom and dad, aunt and uncle, plus one cousin and his friend are headed to their usual campground. Rica is determined that this summer it's going to be different. She is going to have fun and adventure.

Much to her amazement, the fun and adventure begins quite quickly and easily when she meets Stefan. At first it is just the casual glance and nod, but then, thanks to a heat-induced faint on the beach, Rica really has Stefan's attention.

The problem is that Rica's older sister, Michelle, seems to have his attention, too. Will the girls fight over him or realize what a creep he is being and join forces to teach him a lesson?

RICA'S SUMMER is one of the NOT JUST PROMS & PARTIES books by Patricia G. Penny. With its sibling rivalry, hot guys, and illegally obtained alcohol, it should be popular with teen girls. The author packs in plenty of action in the less than 140-page book, and also includes a message teens can't miss.

Karin's dilemma is her mother's boyfriend. Karin's father left them years ago, and her mother has never really shown an interest in another man. It was probably a lack of self-confidence that caused her to feel more comfortable spending her free time watching TV with Karin or reading or crocheting. Then along came Cal.

Cal works in the same telemarketing business as Karin's mother. There's something a bit creepy about Cal, but Karin can't quite put her finger on it. He begins spending more and more time at their house, and during that time he lets a few things slip.

Karin's boyfriend, Ben, mentions that he saw Cal at the courthouse. Cal's explanation of handling a speeding ticket doesn't make sense when Ben points out to Karin that the courthouse location where Cal was seen is for criminal cases only. When confronted, Cal comes up with what Karin thinks is a lame excuse.

When Karin's mother announces that Cal is moving in, Karin decides to take action. She is going away to college in the fall, which means their time together is limited. But what bothers Karin is that once she is gone, her mother will be alone with Cal and that makes her very uncomfortable. How can she convince her mother that she deserves better?

Patricia G. Penny continues the NOT JUST PROMS & PARTIES series with KARIN'S DILEMMA. Quick, easy reading with a contemporary theme, it is sure to be popular with teen girls.

Emily is a teen rebel. She's one of those girls who gets a tattoo against her mother's wishes and just can't stop from dating a guy with a bad reputation.

When her grandma offers her a chance to house-sit, Emily jumps at the opportunity. What better place is there to throw a party?

But she begins to wonder if she can keep up with all the intensity that comes with her boyfriend. When there's a disaster at the party and secrets begin to come undone, Emily's life starts to change.

EMILY'S REBELLION, which is one of the many books in the NOT JUST PROMS & PARTIES series, is an appealing and light read. Emily is an interesting character, one with whom I'm sure many teens will be able to relate. While I'm not exactly into partying, I could relate to almost all of the situations that came up.

I'd definitely recommend this and I certainly hope to get my hands on the other books in the series.

Chelsea is riding the bus or bumming rides to school, to work, to anywhere she has to go. Can you believe her parents would actually take away her driving privileges? So she had an accident, a ticket, and then another accident in the one year since she's had her license. Don't they know how difficult this makes her life?

Getting a ride ends up being pretty easy when she realizes she just needs to take advantage of the fact that geeky Denny Waddell seems to be camped on her doorstep with his tongue hanging out. He'll drive her anywhere; all she has to do is ask.

The rides get easier and the driver gets better looking when Chelsea hooks up with the hot guy who works at the pet store next to the chocolate shop where she works. He seems to be really into her, but everywhere they go they are stalked by his ex-girlfriend. Geez!

Patricia G. Penny has teamed up with Lobster Press to create a series titled NOT JUST PROMS & PARTIES. CHELSEA'S RIDE is the first I have read and I'm impressed. The writing is smooth and well-crafted for such a short read - less than 140 pages. The story has interesting characters and a message for teens. I'm looking forward to reading and reviewing several more that were sent my way.
