I wasn't sure how I was feeling about this book the whole way through, but it captured my attention enough to see it through to the end.

I enjoyed the characters and the world building. The fact that this was post apocalypse, but not a complete dystopia, was different, and I really liked it.

This was a nice start to the series.

Soul Thing is book one in The Game of Gods series by Lana Pechercyzk. Everything that happens in this story is based around witches, gods, and a game they are playing.

Soul Thing had some things I like and some things not so much. It was interesting, a bit confusing, and I’m a bit conflicted on how I feel about Soul Thing.

The story starts off a little slow, but then it picks up. The action is quick and we learning a lot about Roo and this world that has opened up to her. We get a lot of information thrown at us and it became a bit overwhelming to me.

From what I understand the humans where fighting a war with witches. They did a purge, which is burning witches at the stake, and so they thought the witches where gone for good. But after a few years we learn it didn’t work and now the governments of the world have signed a peace treaty with witches. Bedsides the witches their is a deeper plot/game happening.

Unfortunately for the female population the world has gone back into the dark ages where women no longer have rights and the men in their life controls everything. Who they marry, where they work, etc.. Besides all that the women are collared in a way, which makes me think of slavery. No rights for women. I’m a little upset with this plot direction in the story. These new laws aren’t going to stop the bad witches from taking over a human body and kicking out the soul. The witches can do magic and so I don’t understand why the government has gone back to the dark ages with women.

Roo is an interesting character. I liked her. Her life gets turned upside down, but she doesn’t wallow in self pity. She tries to find answers as to what she is, what she can do, and what her part in this game might be. Their is also a possible lover interest in Cash, but for now that is on the sidelines until we learning more. Theirs a lot of mystery surrounding these characters that needs to be sorted out.

As the story goes we learn that their is a deeper game happening that most humans don’t know about. The gods and their people are playing this game. I’m not sure really what they’re playing for. The game concept is wired and bit confusing.

The author did a nice job, but I feel like she may have over thunk things. I’m bit confused with a lot of the things introduced to us. As for Soul Thing it was an all right read, but it didn’t leave me with the feeling of wanting to continue on.
