The message behind the book is ignore the bad behavior, but make sure you were listening the whole time. Then as soon as they get it and stop doing the bad behavior, whether that’s throwing a fit or whatever, then you immediately re-engage in a joyful way and don’t mention the bad behavior and then move forward from there. You let them know you will be ignoring the bad behavior but then you have to be consistent.
