3.5/5 rating.

This was an easy read, it didn't take me long to finish it. I don't like horror books but for some reason I thought the plot sounded interesting and I decided to give it a shot. This wasn't a really scary novel, which I'm happy about, because I don't like being scared while I'm reading. I liked the main character, I thought she was very likeable and somebody you can root for. The book switched between quite a few characters to give insight on what was happening throughout the book. I thought that sometimes there didn't need to be a character switch. One instance that comes to mind is at the end when a action scene happened and it switched to a short couple of lines of another character, when that scene could of just stayed on one person instead of a new chapter with a few lines of what another character was feeling in that instance. In my opinion, that took away from the action that was happening.

Overall it was a good read.

I won this on a giveaway.

Dark Homecoming by William Patterson
3 Stars
From The Book:
A beautiful mansion—and the consequences for a newcomer who dares to call it home. Liz Huntington met her husband David, scion of one of Palm Beach’s wealthiest families, just weeks ago. Their honeymoon was idyllic and Liz is blissfully happy—at first. But she feels increasingly uneasy in her lavish new home. Huntington House and its staff still seem to be in the thrall of David’s first wife. In fact, the housekeeper, Mrs. Hoffman, has made it clear that Liz can never measure up to the stunning, sophisticated, deceased, Dominique.

Though Dominique drowned in a yachting accident, Liz still senses her spirit in the house. She hears unexplained noises…sees shadowy figures vanishing down the long corridors. The scent of Dominique’s favorite flowers fills the air. But Liz’s fears are more than insecurity. Two young women connected to Huntington House have already met terrible deaths. More will die—and soon. Because behind the house’s polished facade is an unimaginable secret and a love turned to twisted, unnatural obsession.

My Views:
Not what I was expecting from the synopsis. The idea was great but the actual story didn't really support it. About midway through the book the plot turns away and the more than one time reader of this genre knows what is going to happen. The book had nearly 500 pages so I spent a long time hoping that the plot would go back to what the book had promised in the beginning.

This wasn't the worst book I ever read but it wasn't really good either. There were way too many redundancies and the ending dragged and dragged until I was left hoping every character in the book would just die so I could be done with the book already. The writing style and word usage seemed very amateur. The characters were underdeveloped and very cardboard like. I loved the idea of a haunted inn but there were no ghost just little blue demons that I just could not find scary. The house was supposed to be the villain in the story but it never felt alive or evil. The blue creatures took away from that. This was just a disappointing read that did not live up to it's potential.… (altro)
