If you are reading a general repertoire book like this one I imagine it is because you are somewhere around a class "c" or "b" player and you finally feel the need to prepare some openings. In this one, Palliser briefly goes over the Czech Benoni and the Closed Benoni in response White's queen pawn opening. I'm not entirely sure the variations covered here are exhaustive enough to make this book worthwhile to the "a" class player, and I'm not sure the positional explanations relating to these "theory-less" openings is pedagogical enough for someone just beginning to understand positional strategy. It's kind of a throw away book. Or else, one very small part of a larger program of study for the player at this stage of learning. Or, I don't know, you're like me and you only wanted to get a quick feel for the ideas in the Czech Benoni out of curiosity. If you're like me, this is just an ok book but definitely not the final word and if I decide to make the Czech Benoni part of my opening repertoire, I'll need to look elsewhere for a more definitive treatment.… (altro)
