The Egyptian Enigma is the third book in the Dr. Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth series. They can all be read separately, but I do recommend reading them in order (because they are all so good).

In Egyptian Enigma has Elizabeth finally returned to Egypt, well only as a tourist not as an Egyptologist. However, her dreams are still to return to work in Egypt. This trip, however, gives her the chance to study some mummies that yet have been identified. As with the two previous book do we also get a parallel storyline, this time in ancient Egypt. As Elizabeth and her team work to identify the remains do we get the background to the mummies in the parallel story.

I've come to enjoy this two storyline approach in this series. To get both angles, the story of what really happened in the past and the present story with the archeologist trying to figure out the identity of the mummies. It's fascinating. And let's not forget Elizabeth's own problem in real life, adjusting to a new family member, being a lecturer and not forget the new hot guy that shows up in this book. Also, all the food. Warning, don't read this book hungry! On a side note, all those Ramses, they were very hard to keep track on, at one point I wondered if I needed to do a mindmap...

Now I'm eagerly awaiting book four!

After finishing the first book in this series, Olmec Obituary, was I quite keen to start the next book. So, of course, it took me a little over one year to get to book two. I finally decided to read this book because I got book three in the series, Egyptian Enigma, and I felt that now is the time to read this one and get straight to book three (which I now have started to read).

I love Indiana Jones and I wanted to be an Archaeologist when I was younger. So, books that future Archaeologists and mysteries are really up my alley! Dr. Elizabeth Pimms had to in the first book give up her dreams of being an Egyptologist to support her family after her father died. In this book, is Elizabeth still missing lost career (at the moment), but both her work and family life have improved. Although the return of her fiance is not the joyous moment she had expected. Thankfully a new project distracts her. Bones have been found on a Guatemalan island, and just as in the first book will we get flashback back to the past, in this case to the Mayas. I just love how the two storylines intertwine throughout the book.

It was a great joy to once again step back into Elizabeth Pimms world. I read the book during one day because the story was so enjoyable and interesting. I loved both the mystery of the skeletons as well as the drama in Elizabeth's world. This is a great series and I recommend it warmly!

For some reason did I not expect Olmec Obituary to take place in present time. I thought it would take place at the beginning of the 20th century. It's odd how a cover and the blurb can make you expect something else than what you get.

I'm actually a bit surprised that this book is labeled cozy crime because that's not the feeling I got when I read the book. Sure there are no sex scenes and not much violence, but it felt too serious to be a cozy crime book. Sure it had its funny moments, but most of the time it had a serious tone, especially since the main character and her family is recovering from a death in the family and Elizabeth herself has had to give up on her career as an archaeologist to support her family. So, she's not always a happy camper. But I guess since it's not many bloody murder scenes sprinkled in the book can one see this book as a cozy crime novel.

Olmec Obituary is a page-turner. I started to read the book in the evening and finished in the middle of the night. I came to enjoy Elizabeth Pimms and her family quite much and the flashbacks 3000 years ago to the life of the skeletons Emily is examining adds drama to the story. What was is that killed all those people and will Elizabeth get to the bottom of the mystery?

This is definitely a new favorite series of mine. I was intrigued by the mystery with the skeletons and Elizabeth's problem with both her family and work kept my interest up from the beginning until the end of the book. It was such a splendid book.

Olmec Obituary is one of those books that I hoped would be entertaining to read, but in the end, surpassed my expectations. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

4.5 stars
