Boys Are Best! di Manuela Olten

The title of this book sparked my curiousity. It's about two boys talking about how silly girls are while the illustrations show the boys being super-silly themselves. When they make fun of how girls take their teddy bears to bed with them every night because they are "sooo scared" - they scare themselves and go into their sisters(?) room to cuddle up with the teddy bears! This is a cute story many children can enjoy.

This would be a great book to use for a first grade class to introduce a unit about animals. The book is about a little girl who is having trouble falling asleep so, her mom tells her about all types of animals and how they sleep. The little girl attempts to use her imagination to sleep like the animals her mom describes, but is unsuccessful. As a class we could try out sleeping like the different animals because I believe being physically involved promotes learning. Also, it would allow a fun way for my students to move around instead of sitting and listening. For example, the book describes that a stork sleeps only on one leg. After making sure the students have enough space, I could have all my students stand on one leg and close their eyes briefly. I think it would be a fun way for my students to understand that all animals are different, more specifically, that all animals sleep differently.… (altro)

Where Does Pepper Come From? And Other Fun Facts di Brigitte Raab

This book is both delightful and insightful. It answers an assortment of questions about nature with true facts in an interesting way. Illustrations are very good. This book should be good for 2 through 6 yeaer-olds.

Muss mal Pipi di Manuela Olten

"Als ich noch klein war, hatte ich Windeln an. Das war einfach, weil ich da nicht aufs Klo gehen musste. Aber Windeln sind für Babys. Ich und meine Freunde sind schon echt groß. Natürlich haben wir keine Windeln mehr an. Aber das ist auch nicht immer so einfach. Klar, ich kann auch im Stehen Pipi machen. Ich bin ja ein Junge. Aber ich darf das zu Hause nicht. Und warum gilt diese Regel dann nicht im Kaufhaus? Alles sehr verwirrend. Versteh einer die Erwachsenen ..."
