This should be an easy book, as it clearly states its focus is on the greatest newsworthy photographs of the newsworthy era (before computers and the internet arrived). Granted, many of the photos are famous...photos we know even if we weren't "there" at the time, such as the Vietnam snapshots heard 'round the world and the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald.

But I take issue with some of the choices...on page 103, for example, there is a photograph of John Wayne. Now the Duke may be, arguably, the greatest film star of all time, but the shot of him in a cavalry uniform is NOT one of the greatest news photos of all time. In fact, it's not even accurate, as it's supposed to be from 1941, but is clearly from his later years. Strange. Matthew Brady's famous photographs of the Civil War are given short shrift, with the one chosen not even his most known.

So, a nice coffee-table collection for house visitors waiting for the wifi to come on, but somewhat a betrayal of its book title.
