I'm not sure if anybody has ever purchased this book without first visiting Mackinac Island (you can always tell those who have by the way they pronounce it. It's a shibboleth in that way).

I say this as I am unsure if this book is actually for sale anywhere other than the first gift shop you find when entering the island. At least, that's where I got my copy the last time I was there.

Paul Bunyan, whose more of a Minnesotan folk hero, appears in this pro-Michigan book in several vignettes told by "Truthful Tom," who never lies, only stretches the truth from time to time. He chronicles Paul's birth, the discovery of Babe, and several other high-points in Paul's life.

While I cannot attest to the canonical nature of this book, I can attest to the content as being quite entertaining for people who enjoy reading about folklore (or, folklore fictionalized).

So, if Paul Bunyan strikes your fancy, you may find that your collection is not yet complete without this little volume.
