Before They Pass Away di Jimmy Nelson
If it were possible, I'd give this wonderful book of stunning photographs 10 stars. Nelson captures somehow the layers in the lives of his subjects. That this is also a visual polemic is vital. Do we have to watch them pass away, or can we help them to find a way to survive and prosper.
"Before they pass away" is het adembenemende mooie boek van de Engelse fotograaf Jimmy Nelson, die 2½ jaar rond de wereld heeft gereisd om mensen te fotograferen die nog in stamverband leven volgens oude tradities. In het boek worden foto's van 20 stammen getoond, waaronder Amazone Indianen, Masai, Samburu, Tibetanen, stammen uit Noord Rusland en uit Papoea Nieuw Guinea. De foto's zijn haarscherp en de mensen staan er prachtig in vol ornaat op. Bij iedere stam staan 3 bladzijden met tekst (een in het Engels, een in het Duits en een in het Frans) met daarop informatie over de oorsprong, traditie, geloof, dagelijks leven en voedsel. De teksten zijn beknopt maar toch zeer informatief. Een aanwinst voor iedereen die van mooie fotoboeken houdt!… (altro)
