Oliver sails off on another secret mission, this time to Rio De Janeiro. Stopping in the Azores to careen his ship so that the accumulation of weeds, barnacles, and other impediments can be removed to increase its agility and speed. Set upon by pirates, it requires a clever stratagem by the captain to retake his ship and capture the pirates.
The Portuguese authorities allow the pirates to escape and follow them to Rio. Another battle is required before his journey is complete. Meanwhile, the Spanish Fleet has joined the French and an epic battle looms. This series continues to be interesting as the angst-ridden Captain is directed to return to Britain.… (altro)

Captain Quintrell offloads the treasure to the Seventy-Four for safekeeping during their return to England. Pausing to sink one and capture the other of the two French privateers that attack them, the now fleet of three continues the journey. Mutineers and privateers conspire to capture the larger ship thus requiring clever stratagems to retake the Seventy-Four and finish the voyage.

Gibraltar during a plague provides many challenges for Oliver. A disgruntled crew and the possibility of infection makes the Admiralty Order to remain in the harbor a particular difficulty. A serious personal loss causes the Captain much mental anguish to add to his burden of safeguarding the Spanish treasure on board. Some action against French invaders provides brief relief from the tedium of prolonged inaction. Good continuation of a promising series.
