Be prepared - this is not an easy book to read, even if you think you are ready to go back in time to Jim Crow laws and what you think that means. The horror that Willie Peterson endured at the hands of the Williams family and the community as well as the state of Alabama is gutwrenching. Knowing that such injustices continue despite the changes in laws and the acknowledgement that all rights are to be applied equally is a compelling reason to read this book. Have things improved? Yes. And no. Knowing the past helps us to change the future, and helps us to understand why we cannot accept any backsliding on our rights or liberties.… (altro)
