I enjoyed this cozy mystery with a touch of romance story. The main character, Wanda Whipple, has a liking for sleuthing and decides to investigate an apparent arson incident, while trying to find her perfect man. I didn't like Wanda very much at the start of the story, but as it progressed she grew on me. I think it was her unrealistic look on relationships, specifically when wanting to find a partner that put me off. However, I did like her best friend Arlene and her ex-boyfriend Frederico. Wanda finds her self in situations that propel her in the thick of the investigation and it is quite funny to watch her stumbling along. I did pick who the bad guy was quite early on but that did not detract from the story for me. If you like cozy mysteries then I think this is one everyone would enjoy. I enjoyed this mystery with its humorous twist.

When the body of her best friend’s aunt goes missing on the day of her funeral, Wanda Whipple goes into sleuthing mode to find the thief and the body. But before she can do that, more bodies disappear and then some heads, too. What’s going on?

There is quite a variety of characters in this story. Some good people, others not so good. But they all help make this mystery captivating. Between learning of the group called the Osiris Project, the son of a serial killer and a cop who was Wanda’s ex, this story will keep your attention and have you wondering who the Body Snatcher was. I was very surprised to find out.

I was lucky to have won this book from Library Thing and recommend it to mystery readers.… (altro)

The Ankeny Arsonist is a light read book that tells a story of Wanda, who likes sleuthing, reminds me of Miss Marple in a way because they both like sleuthing. In the story there has been a series of arson murders where the victims were burned from a mix of chemicals released when they pop a bubble wrap. The victims were members of a council in the local government and with corruption at hand there were a few suspects, of which Wanda is friends and acquaintances with. And of course, there is a pinch of probable romance in this story.

I have a Kindle edition of this book. I mentioned this since I notice something technically off with the editing of this book, maybe. I saw the word “sic” and “siccing” in a chapter that didn’t make sense to me. There is also misspelling of the word “seriously”, missing the letter “r” and a few others.

However, the flow of the story was smooth and I enjoyed reading the book. I like how it drops clues then I’d think, Oh this must be that(those) guy(s) or girl(s), and later my suspicion would be overthrown as the author gives you another suspect(s) for the murders. This is definitely a young adult’s read since I could tell that the language used is of that level, the conversations are enjoyable and they don’t sound forced (realistic).

I only have a problem with how the suspect(s) was(were) discovered. It was awkward and the main character was clumsy and stupid with her actions given that she is someone who likes sleuthing and seems smart enough, but maybe because she was caught offguard that’s why she was stupid enough that her actions cost the suspect(s) to know that she shows, if that makes sense.

Overall, it was a nice read and if you like a relaxable murder mystery book then give it a try.… (altro)
