Here is a great gift idea just in time for Christmas! I must admit I went lightning fast through this book so that I could review it for you a little early. It is intended to be read one page a day as a devotional. It is a lovely book.

If you struggle with prayer in your own life and just don’t know how to pray or what to pray this little gem is a very helpful resource. Each page has a scripture on it and a prayer that connects with the scripture for the day. It is a great book if you are wanting to know more about how to pray scripture in your own life. Each daily thought is biblical and encouraging.

There are over 200 daily devotional prayers. It would be perfect to start 2018 with this resource. If you are looking for a devotional for you or a friend or family member this is a great one to encourage their walk with Christ. It would be a great Christmas gift or stocking stuffer.

The one thing I didn’t love about this book was the use of a variety of translations and paraphrases. I prefer for a devotional to stick with one translation and an accurate one. This does incorporate the Message, New Living Translation, New Century Version, New International Version, and New King James Version. I am just not a fan of some of the more modern texts (the Message in particular) that take liberties with the real meaning of the original text. (No, I am not a KJV only girl) It is just a thing with me. Outside of not liking that trend in modern books I really loved Karen’s prayers that she shares and how she connects them so that we are praying scripture each day.

I would gladly gift this to my college girl or a friend or other family member.

I would give this resource a 4 out of 5 stars.

I generally love devotional books. They’re a quick, easy way to make sure I connect with God’s word every single day.

A good daily devotional keeps me excited to read the next day’s story, thoughts, and scripture. It challenges my interpretations and forces me to dig deeper. That’s exactly what What a Great Word did for me.

Unfortunately, since I was specifically reading What a Great Word with the intention of reviewing it, I had to rush through every day in a short period of time. The book is meant to be read one page, one word, each day. So I feel I may have lost something in the speed, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a Great Word is set up in a “word of the day” type format. Every day begins with a “new” word. It then gives a scripture with that word in it and then explains how the word connects with scripture and how to apply it in your life. Every day ends in a prayer.

The daily devotions are short, which makes it a great devotional for people short on time, as well as people like me who can get sidetracked very easily.

First off I have to mention how much I like the cover of this uplifting book. Once opening the pages and reading the prayers I have fallen in love with the book, it's set up like daily devotions and oh, how they point one to and glorify God. Very inspiring to say the least and definitely not short little snippets. There's enough heartfelt emotion in the author's words that you cannot help being drawn to our heavenly Father. Refreshing and enjoyable.
