Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 and baptized Norma Jeane Baker, in Los Angeles, California. She spent much of her childhood in foster homes and later began a career as a model which lead to a film contract in 1946. Her early film appearances were minor but her mostra altro performance in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve were well received. By 1953 Marilyn Monroe had progressed to leading roles. Her dumb blonde character was used in such films as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire and The Seven Year Itch. She then went on to study at the Actors Studio to broaden her range and her performance in Bus Stop was hailed by critics and she received a Golden Globe nomination. Her production company, Mariln Monroe Productions, released The Prince and The Showgirl for which she received a BAFTA Award nominationand, won a David di Donatello award. She received a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Some Like It Hot in 1959. The final years of her life were marked by illness, personal problems and a reputation for being difficult to work with. The circumstances of her death from an overdose of barbiturates have been the subject of conjecture. This was a very interesting insight into Marilyn Monroe's life. Most of the chapters are pretty short, little tidbits of stories about her life growing up, how she broke into the business, her first loves etc. Its too bad she didn't continue writing it, because it ends a bit abruptly (not because of her death, it ends right after her marriage to Joe DiMagio). Definitely recommended to any Marilyn fan.
This was very interesting. Its mostly small journal entries, poems, notes Marilyn wrote to herself along with some letters. Reading this, she was much smarter than people seemed to give her credit for. And clearly lonely and with some self issues (who isn't?). I've always been very interested in Marilyn and for any fan of hers, this is a very cool (quick) read and gives some insight into how she thought. It was also very cool to see her handwriting and such!!

Although a book of scribbling from an unknown writer or poet would never be published, Marilyn Monroe's mystique continues to captivate public attention. This volume of thoughts, impressions, images, and feelings is a bit voyeuristic, but it does satisfy the craving to know what exactly went on behind the pretty face.
A recommended read for anyone interested in Marilyn Monroe or the inner thoughts of a creative person.… (altro)
