useless to anyone who hasn't had a course in phonetics. I am a linguistics scholar and prof and know how incomprehensible this would be to most people. he could have had a long chapter explaining such phenomena as voicing and unvoicing and raising and lowering vowels and then he might have been able to discuss pronunciation intelligently. Also, I doubt the accuracy of his judgments of how a foreign speaker speaks English
