It took me a while to get into “Everywhere to Hide” by Siri Mitchell but once my interest was piqued I really enjoyed the story.

The cover was what drew me to read this book, the blurb intrigued me, and I already read Mitchell’s “A Constant Heart,” have several of her books on my want to read list, and not to mention, why not add another suspense to my autumn reads?!

If I’m honest, I have to say I didn’t LOVE the first half of the book, and I don’t know why, but as I was reading the ending I found that I shut the book with a very satisfying feeling, I found out new things from this book, not to go into details but there were many things that I didn’t know much or anything about, learning more about them was really neat, and wow, I had never heard of face blindness before, that is something that I can’t even begin to imagine what it is like.

The suspenseful, especially near the end, was one thing that really pulled me in. I didn’t like that at first there was an overfilled telling of details, for me, at least.

There was a time when Whitney fell asleep with Leo in the same bed, however, they did nothing else though he thought she wanted to do, you know what, and said it wasn’t a good thing. (Which is what knocked the other half star off of the book along with the beginning which had me slightly bored.)

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

It started out slow, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Gave food for thought about the conditions of women in the late 1800s and the things they did to themselves (mentally & physically) to secure a good marriage. Good message about the importance of being yourself and having faith.

A unique story told in first person that certainly will keep you as busy trying to figure out the mystery as the main character. The one hang up is that the main character is presented as ADHD which means that her thoughts are continuously changing a jumping from one thing to the next. This at times means a repeat of thought over and over which can seem a little over kill at times and drag the story down a little. It can also be a little overwhelming for a person not used to dealing with people like this. Unfortunate for the main character this also may lead the reader to believe that the main character is not a solid character.

I found the over all story to be delightfully cute and interesting. I had never really thought about what it must have been like to be a phone operator in this era - or how strange it would be to hear snippits of conversations all day long. Nor had I ever contemplated the strangeness of having to connect all those calls to the correct number or person. As always SIri Mitchell does an excellent job of exploring the historical context of her books and helping the reader to feel as if they have been transported back in time.

I truly enjoyed unraveling mystery of a menacing call centered around the man that Ellis loves. Ellis is a sweet and likeable main character with flighty personality and sweet heart. The reader can not help but feel a little sorry for her as she feels she is always the disappointment and at the heart of this novel it is revealed that her motivation is to prove her worth to those around her.

In the end will she discover that true value is in the eye of the beholder and based in the heart of the individual? Will she come to understand that love is worth it even when we don't think we deserve it? Will she discover the truth about the menacing call? And, finally, will Ellis discover and become comfortable with who she is and who God created her to be?

Thanks to the publisher for this review copy.
