Genre: Realistic Fiction
Critique: This story is not necessarily realistic within America, but it is realistic fiction for this island village. This is real island culture, and although the setting and some of the characters (like the wise man or the healer) are not common here, they are within this culture. The boy goes through true emotions when feeling small and when finally again getting to see his father.… (altro)

This book felt a bit disjointed to me. I was expecting the end result to be a story about how some people are different and that is ok, but then the final illustration seems to indicate that Hue Boy starts growing. The illustrations were great, I loved the bright highlights the artist used. I'm not sure I would use this book in a school or library program, but if I did it would probably be to talk about the hurtful nature of teasing and bullying and about accepting peoples differences.
