Pretty good for a Christian book. The main detective character was pretty interesting and, thankfully, the Christian angle is fairly understated as a rule. The detective's groping towards religion actually pairs off nicely with the born-again mobster that is his mentor of sorts.

Late in the book there is a trip to South America that doesn't really work: the new characters that are introduced are underdrawn, and the section feels like filler. This is also the point where the author falls into the Christian trap of having the bad guys attacking and killing Christians simply because they're Christians - an important element of Christian eschatology, but it tends to cause a fair amount of eye-rolling among unbelievers.

But then it picks up again at the end, and Weatherby's eventual conversion is tastefully done. As good a piece of Christian fiction as any since C.S. Lewis died.… (altro)
