His analysis of the attitudes and challenges of ingrown churches are apt and spot on-- withdrawal from world, assertion of superiority, self-justification and rationalization of anemic growth and internal challenges, and so on and so forth. Many of the suggestions for growth-- directing the church toward God's purpose for it, casting a vision, encouraging members, prayer, reliance on God, small groups, dedication of ministers and elders to the work of equipping saints, acts of service, among others-- are also beneficial.
The author is Evangelical, heavily influenced by Luther, Calvin, Wesley, Edwards, and the like, and the over-reliance on Protestant dogma dampens the book's effectiveness. Nevertheless, many good things to consider.… (altro)
