This was my first book of this year that I stayed up past midnight to read. From the description I expected more development of Shaun with the stepfather and the fire, however we were through that in the first couple pages. The beginning was captivating and I was drawn in immediately, the middle took a little more work to get through, but the back third we were off to the races again as I was so intrigued to find out who all of these people are, what are they doing and where do we go from here. Even though the end wasn't necessarily a cliffhanger with unresolved storylines, it was left open enough to hint that we may see these disturbed teens again. Dystopian YA series have been a very popular genre for many years now and is only getting more popular. I think this has the potential to be a great series.… (altro)

It may be a super quick read with a semi-interesing plot to capture you're attention, but I'm afraid that's all you'll find here.

I've read quite a few books that struggle with "show don't tell", but this may be the worst offender I've ever come across. In a story that should be packed with action, 90% of it is characters sitting around explaining the plot to each other. In one instance, a character explains for 3 pages what we just spent the previous chapter reading. It was incredibly tedious.

Clearly this is meant to be the set up for a series, and the author felt like a lot of groundwork needed to be laid down, but the dialogue plot dumps were just too heavy handed for me.

I was provided an ARC of Generation Annihilation in exchange for my honest review.

I wanted to like this book. It's an interesting premise and an interesting setting, but I could not get into either Cass or Shaun as characters from the beginning, and the language used throughout the novel was not appealing in style to me. I'm sure there is a good audience out there for this book—and I hope they enjoy it—but this was not a read that appealed to me, personally.

I gave Generation Annihilation a 3.5 stars. I found the authors descriptive writing beautiful and really captivating. It added so much to the story! However, I found the romantic interest was a bit rushed, forced and difficult to relate to. The action was very original but also felt a little rushed at the very start, almost like we were rushing to get to the climax. I felt like the beginning could've been fleshed out a little more, allowing us to really connect with the characters and become invested in their story. Although we definitely got that with Shaun, I didn't feel like I knew or even liked Cass. Fleshing out her backstory would've added depth to her character. Overall, not a bad read and definitely thrilled be to blast through the last 50% in one reading session.… (altro)
