The book starts by delivering what you expect it to be - an autobiography of a 'country architect' starting with his experiences in academics and proceeding from there. Unfortunately, after a third of the book it veers off this path and each subsequent chapter stands alone, each a just-so story from the author's life with a variety of lessons. A strict autobiography that tried to be less literary would be much more interesting. The book ends up being not enough about architectural philosophy and also not enough about the person in question - it just comes off as a bunch of dinner stories.

While there are some interesting concepts in this book, it is let down by not having photographs. This is probably due to the fact that many of these buildings have not yet been built. That said, all buildings have floor plans and elevation drawings or often detailed construction plans. So this is probably a book for people who either are good at envisaging things from plans and technical drawings or have some plans and want to do a comparison, rather than someone still just 'looking for ideas'.… (altro)
