Randy, the Badly Drawn Horse di T. L. McBeth
If you look under the book jacket, there's a professional painting of a horse under the goofy crayon drawing of one. We got a kick out of that.
A young robot is spending time around the town when he spots what he fees is the love of his life. His then goes on a hunt to win over this mystery woman.
Robot spies someone…he is in LOVE. He tries to get up the nerve to talk to her, but when he goes back, she is GONE. He finally finds her inside the shop….she is a toaster. They run away together, and live happily ever after. Pink, red, gray, black and white illustrations- you are not sure who the beautiful ‘love’ is-at first. Cute text with lots of opportunities to make electrical noises. This book would be great at Valentine’s Day or for ‘robot’ story time.
When Robot falls in love with a shiny, beautiful stranger, he returns again and again to the site where he first glimpsed her, and gazes longingly through the window. Then she disappears, and he is beside himself, searching everywhere for her. Finally, reason prevails, and he returns to the appliance store where he first spotted her, and is overjoyed to be reunited, and to bring her home...
Having enjoyed T.L. McBeth's cartoon-like artwork in Bridget Heos' Stegothesaurus, I was curious to see what he would do in Robot In Love, his picture-book debut as both author and illustrator. Overall I found this a pleasant and amusing book, and got a chuckle out of the identity of Robot's lady love, who is atoaster . That said, I don't know that I was especially "wowed" by this one, from either a story-telling or aesthetic perspective. It's cute, but not much more. I'd recommend it to young robot lovers, and to anyone looking for new children's stories about falling in love.… (altro)
