Breve biografia
Anne Mazer is the oldest of four children of the novelists Norma Fox Mazer and Harry Mazer. She had a childhood full of books and said that she loved reading so much she would often sneak out of high school to go to the library. After high school, she went on to study art at Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts. She also studied French language and literature at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she lived for three years. Her first published work, Watch Me, was a critically acclaimed picture book for children. Moose Street, published two years later, was a Booklist Editor's Choice for Best Book of 1992. Among her numerous other books, The Salamander Room (1994) is considered a classic, though Anne Mazer is probably best known as the author of The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes series. Her short stories have been included in anthologies, and she herself has edited four anthologies for teenage readers, several of which have been named New York Public Library Best Books for Teens. In 2010, she co-authored with Ellen Potter the book Spilling Ink: A Handbook for Young Writers. She is an artist-in-residence at Colgate University.

The Pen is Mightier than the Sword was my first Abby Hayes book, and let me tell ya I used to be addicted to these guys! I would find them at the local library and binge these babies until I had them memorized! I recently found a copy of these at a local charity book sale so I grabbed one to do a quick review!

This book is most likely going to be for the middle grade girl demographic, but middle graders will love it regardless. Abby Hayes is always working hard, and she wants to prove her independence in this book. Books like these are great little adventures and show perserverance of a girl who wants to meet a goal!… (altro)

_America Street_'s stories depict adolescents from various American subcultures. This anthology is great if you are looking for short, accessible texts with which to frame a discussion of culture in your English class. There are a few stories, however, such as "Business at 11" where the culture represented is a little more ambiguous.
