A sweeping panorama of the British leaders and administrators who set up and ran what is known as the British Empire in the Indian sub-continent. This gives an indication of the enormous and painstaking work of setting up the institutional and legal structure over a period of almost two centuries that brought it into the modern age, and which served as the foundation for the successor entities of Pakistan, India and later Bangladesh.
