Oooh, I really enjoyed the world building in this book, as well as the delightful, roguish characters. I was thoroughly enraptured with the merchant houses and the swordplay -- the interesting rituals, the delightful and inevitable conclusion. Satisfying romance, great messages about self and mental health, sharp and witty dialogue and a puzzle of intrigue in the background. I hope we get more books from this world.

A Power Unbound (The Last Binding, 3) di Freya Marske

I'm not gonna say this is high art, but I had a great time and stayed up late to finish it. Jack's feelings about his sister were especially well done, and I appreciated the misdirection with respect to how the inevitable "betrayal!" twist went down --- hey, he didn't have to spend the rest of the book proving himself to be worthy of his love interest! I was not surprised that the answer to the Last Contract was going to be the end of magic as they knew it, but I was a bit surprised at how ~Dramatique~ the action scenes got.… (altro)

This book started off with an interesting premise and some cool worldbuilding, but it failed to engage me. I was bored reading it, and never cared about the characters or romance. Overall, I would not recommend.

Read it again after reading the second and honestly I loved it even more. Such a great book, moved it from 4 to 5 stars.
