This is a fun book for upper elementary students. It starts with an observation and question and then gives an experiment to answer the questions. They are categorized by topic with multiple experiments per topic. Most require common materials making it easy for all students to do.

Do you ever ask questions like, "What's the fastest way to cool a beverage?" Or do you wonder if Coca-Cola will really rot your teeth like your mom says? When someone drops a piece of food on the floor, do you ever hear him say, "five second rule"? Does that really work? Do you ever eat really hot chili peppers? Is it true that milk is the best way to stop chili peppers from burning the inside of your mouth? How clean IS your toilet anyway? Is there something in the house that is dirtier than the toilet? We live in Seattle, it rains here a lot. If you run through the rain instead of walk, does that keep you any drier? This winter, did you see icicles on the overhangs of buildings? Did you know you can make your own icicles? Have you ever tried to make a battery with a lemon?

This book helps you answer all of these questions -- and many more. There are tons of experiments that you can do here at home, including making a volcano with baking soda and vinegar, making your own electroscope, or even lighting a light bulb with that lemon battery. If you're stuck on ideas and want a really cool science fair project this spring, check out Mythbusters Science Fair Book!

I actually wouldn't recommend this for science fair projects (except in cases where the kid appeal might tempt and otherwise reluctant young scientist). Many of the typical science fair projects are reiterated here (bread mold, talking to plants, building a baking soda volcano) and some of the other ideas are not science fair material (make a duct tape wallet? In what world is that a science fair project?). Still, there are fun activities contained within and for families who can't get enough of the show, this book provides some fun family activities.
