Even if you don't happen to follow golf, you'll get quite a few laughs from this book. Manning, the longtime editorial cartoonist for the Arizona Republic, was also a golfer (by his own confession, in the preface), and the result is this very funny book which has witty writing to go along with an enormous collection of funny drawings. One of the running gags in the book is the hole placed at the corner of each page, which is incorporated into sketches. Top-notch stuff, though you wonder if every golfer was willing to get the joke. Some interesting motion analysis with skeletons for the art-minded.… (altro)
Not only entertaining, but informative. Manning was a longtime editorial cartoonist based in Arizona, and he carries over his love of the area into this collection, which explains the different kinds of cacti (and certain non-cacti) that could be found in the area. Lovely and funny illustrations. Slight warning about a few obsolete (ahem) terms used.
The book is exactly what it purports to be. The art and humor merit the 4th star
