Breve biografia
[excerpt from author's website]
I'm the author of over 30 books for children and teens. I write about the environment, history, social justice, and people who make a difference. My books have been honored with the Asian/Pacific American Library Association Award for Literature ( Picture Book), Amelia Bloomer Top Ten List, Junior Library Guild Selection, SCBWI Martha Weston Grant, Paterson Prize for Books for Young People (Picture Book), and more.

I have an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. The college is on a hill in Montpelier, the state capital, where the temperature is way below zero in January. The only way to keep warm is to write faster.

This book would be great for Intermediate readers
It is about these two children in Bangladesh that desire to go to school, but have to work in order to help provide for their family. It provides greater perspective of life in other parts of the world and gives insight the lack of accessibility of education for many families
This book would be a good one to use if you are doing cultural lessons, or are talking about education as a whole. It could provide greater perspective as to the difference between school in America and in different countries.… (altro)

Fantastic visuals, readers are made to feel as though they are truly visiting the state. Begins with several pages on New York City, then moving to Cooperstown, Erie Canal, and Niagara. Highlights the state as it is today, with some information about the history of notable locations. This is not a book for students interested in the history of New York, instead this is an excellent resource for students curious about the Big Apple. Includes glossary, map, fact list, additional resources (print and digital), index. Recommended for elementary libraries.… (altro)

This book would be good for Primary level. This book is about a little girl named Yasmin, who live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Throughout the story she dreams of going to school but once their house gets destroyed from a cyclone she has to move to the city to work for her family splitting bricks. It shows her struggle of working harder and harder every day to one day go to school, until she was able to at the end of the story. This would be a great book in the classroom to talk about different cultures and perspectives.… (altro)
