This is a wonderful little book with an outstanding editorial board, a first-rate illustrator, and a Who's Who of the Russian immigrant community donating recipes. Even James Beard donated one. Excellent recipes clearly written. A wonderful cooperative venture between intelligent and kindhearted American-born folks and new Americans.The funds raised helped Russians defeat Hitler. The references to war-time coupons and points definitely give it a strong historical cast. Falls squarely within the tradition of charity cookbooks that began after the American Civil War. Highly recommended to anyone interested in cookbooks of WWII, history of the period, and/or good recipes for Russian cooking.… (altro)
3rd War-Time ed. Originally published by the Russian War Relief in 1942 and republished in a special wartime edition in 1943. Featured by Darra Goldstein in A Feast for the Eyes Symposium SF CA 2014. Also, 1st edition. See entry.
Peculiar little book. Definitely has a pre-cold war, pro-Marxist feel to it.
