Mission in Malmo is the 9th Inspector Anita Sundstrom mystery. It is written by Torquil Macleod.
I have read every Anita Sundstrom mystery. Each one is very well-paced, well-plotted with a terrific location (Malmo, Sweden), and contains very realistic and personable characters. The series is mystery, crime drama, police procedural, detective story all rolled into one. Throw in a little Scandanavian Noir and you’re all set for an enjoyable read.
There is a map and an interesting ‘About the Author’ section.
We begin with a Prologue. A Chicago ‘Boss’, Salvatore Baresi, is at the funeral of his daughter’s husband, Matteo. He is shaking with fury and his words are “I want the Swede found.”
We move to Part 1. The year is 2006. The place is Malmo, Sweden. The Criminal Investigation Squad (of which Anita Sundstrom is an Inspector) is faced with investigating a dramatic robbery
(the infamous Q Guard Robbery Case), that in the end is only partially solved.
Part 2. The time is The Present. The place is Sweden and we begin with Salvatore Baresi yet again. His plane is about to land in Sweden and he mulls over his orders from Guiseppe Gentile (his Boss!) - “Find Micky Mosten, retrieve the money he’d stolen, and then, slowly and painfully, kill the bastard.”
Who is this Micky Mosten and how does he fit in (or does he fit in?) with the Q Guard Robbery Case of 2006?
A fantastic series that I can highly recommend. *****

MAMMON IN MALMO is the 8th Inspector Anita Sundstrom Mystery, in Torquil MacLeod’s Malmo Mysteries series.

“Anita Sundstrom, out of the force for a year after her resignation, is approached by a dying woman to track down a collection of paintings stolen from her family. The artworks were looted by the Nazis in Budapest in 1944. But needing the money, Anita takes on the seemingly impossible task. As she heads off to Hungary, she has no idea of the dangers ahead.” (Amazon synopsis)

I stumbled upon this series years ago and have enjoyed every new publication. MEET ME IN MALMO was the first book, published in 2013.

The characters, the plots, the location, the writing - excellent. I especially like the interweaving of current issues or past historical events into the plots. Mr. MacLeod’s Notes are fascinating reading.
The current title, MAMMON IN MALMO, includes a map of Malmo and Southern Skane; a definition of the word ‘mammon’ (riches or wealth regarded as a source of evil and corruption); Table of Contents; a Prologue; an Epilogue; Notes; Acknowledgements.
I also like the e-book cover art. *****

This is the first book I have read by this order and have already downloaded book 2. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A real mixed bag of detectives in the story
