I guess I'm the only person here that didn't love this. The language was colorless and I didn't care about any of the characters. The predictable plot line just annoyed me.

Since she won the Oregon Book Award for this, I was expecting greatness (having read another nominee - Smith Henderson's Fourth of July Creek - which was very good). I just had to force myself to finish this one. Not sure why there was zero connection for me, because that's rare...

If you love New York, you should read this book. If you just moved to New York, you should read this book. If you love stories about cities and the people who live in them, you should read this book. Mostly I want to hand it to every moron traipsing around the East Village and acting like they're all downtown. Cari Luna captured a slice of the city which would otherwise eventually be forgotten, or forgotten more than it already has by the shiny young things moving onto Avenue B like it ain't no thang.
