If memory serves me correctly, this was the first history of South African cricket to be published, way back in 1915. "The history of South African cricket" gives a run down of cricket in South Africa from its first known appearance in the region and its growth (sadly no evidence exists that Gandhi played cricket while living in South Africa) to "the present day" of 1915.
The history of each province is given a run down and scores of major matches and first-class averages are included. Oddly, South African Test batsman Frederick Cook, the only Test cricketer to be born in the Dutch East Indies, is not mentioned (beyond the score cards and averages), which is odd because not only is he unique in his Dutch East Indies background but had one of the best first-class batting averages of the previous thirty years or so.… (altro)
