Michele Lucas

Written as a memoir in the first person, this novel tells the story of a young woman who seeks to uncover her past and learn how her family died in WWII in southwest France. Based on a real historical event, the massacre of a French village by German soldiers in 1944, this book could have been much better. Sadly, the writing is very poor in places. The author's passion for her subject is evident and the philosophical musings on the existence of God by her character ( Claire ) are intelligent and interesting but otherwise Claire's inane chatter spoils much of the drama.
This is a first novel however and Ms Lucas should have had far more help from her editor.
It may be that this was intended as a young reader book and not a serious adult novel.… (altro)
