"Words at Play: Creative Writing and Dramaturgy" includes Londre's essays on plays produced at several regional professional theatre companies interspersed with instructive examples for writing more clearly, economically, and compellingly.
At almost 500 pages, this is not, in any sense of the word, light reading. North America has seen a vast amount and variety of theatre, all of which the authors have attempted to survey in their book.
I have not read the entire book and cannot comment on more than a sliver of it. Indeed, I wonder who could, apart from the authors themselves?
The coverage of the development of theatre in Toronto offers a good summary of the past two centuries. There are some small errors of detail, only to be expected in a work of this scope, but the story is there in readable form.
I admire the authors' success in packing so much information (and there really is a lot of it) into a single book without creating a text so dry and factually terse as to be indigestible.… (altro)
