Marjorie Liu is an American novelist, poet, comic book writer. She is a graduate of Lawrence University and the University of Wisconsin law school. She is the author of the Dirk & Steele series, Hunter Kiss series. Her stand-alone novels are A Taste of Crimson: Crimson City, Book 2, and Xmen: Dark mostra altro Mirror. this was just too much for me, I do like plots that involve protagonists sharing a body with some kind of demon/monster they have to try and control BUT I really don't like this world and there's just too much dark shit even for me.. I will not be continuing with this series

Got to about 35% but I'm letting it go.
Enjoyed her short story The Briar and the Rose in The Starlit Wood: New Fairy Tales which made me want to seek out more work by her. This Locusmag review set my expectations pretty high...
"Tiger Eye is about a female tourist in Beijing who goes to the Pan Jia Yuan dirt market, where an old woman forces upon her a magic puzzle box. The heroine is an artisan blacksmith with a psychic affinity for metal, and when she opens the box a shapeshifter appears who has been imprisoned for two thousand years. He’s compelled to serve anyone who opens the box, and becomes bound to them for the remainder of their lives. He’s the hero, obviously — and when someone tries to assassinate the heroine, and it’s discovered that the person who cursed the hero with slavery is still alive, the craziness kicks in with yet more psychics, immortals, magic, detective agencies, dragons, conspiracy — and yes, romance.” https://locusmag.com/2009/06/marjorie-liu-hopeless-romantic/
I'm not a PR reader but sometimes I have to check and see if I can be won over. I was worried with the covers but I knew I was done when they are in different rooms thinking about each other, then the female cries out (from the bathtub) and tells the male when he runs in to check on her, that she had a bad dream that they were going to be in some bad predicament. Just put them in the bad predicament would ya!
At 35% there is too much repetitive talking and internal dialogue and it feels like the story isn't going anywhere though tons of stuff has happened. "inane filler" as another reviewer said. This particular story is not for me.… (altro)
