Readable account of the history of Pompeii. The history of the city forms the larger part of the book and spans from the beginnings to A.D. 79, with details on the changes that might have resulted from the town being made a colonia of Rome. The history of the excavations forms a small, but well summarised section at the rear, while the chapter on life in the city on the eve of the eruption is again well summarised. Bibliography is good and the text is noted throughout. It is well illustrated and easy to read.… (altro)
